When the young Comte de Dion stopped at the Giroux toy shop on Paris’s Boulevard des Italiens in December 1881, he was looking for toys to give as prizes at a ball he was planning. But he was intrigued by the quality of the workmanship of a model steam engine and asked who had built it. Directed to the workshop out back, he found Georges Bouton and Charles-Armand Trepardoux. They were earning a measly seven francs a day building model boats and steam engines and scientific instruments. De Dion promptly offered them 10 francs a day and asked them to build a full-size engine, such as might power a carriage. So, in much the same way as the aristocratic Charles Rolls engaged engineer Henry Royce some 20 years later, a multi-class partnership was formed between a wealthy entrepreneur and working class craftsmen.

Bouton and Trepardoux set to work in a run-down building on the Rue Pergolese, near Avenue de la Grande Armee, the center of Paris’s bicycle industry, whose workers would soon be building automobiles. The problem with steam-powered vehicles was that efficient boilers were huge and powered locomotives and steamships. So how could one be miniaturized?

SAR’s Tru-Fit fenders are stamped from brand new tooling patterned after original design and dimensions. Fitment to ’34 model cars should be exact while ’33 model cars will require very minor modifications, if in fact any, at the lower grille areas. Front fenders fit 2/4 Door Sedans, Roadster, Cabriolet, 3/5-Window Coupes. Rear Fenders fit Roadster, Cabriolet, 3/5-Window Coupes and Sedans with pre-scribed minor trimming. These brand new fenders are more expensive than the reproduction fenders that have been available in the past, but they are correct unlike the others. The outer bead on the Brand “X” fenders are too wide and has a peaked crease in the center. Also Brand “X” fenders do not have a consistent arch to the wheel well opening when viewed from the side. They also just plain do not fit cars. There is much cutting and welding to make them fit a car. Our new fenders have corrected all of these issues at a great expense in new modern state of the art tooling in Detroit. SAVE $400 WHEN YOU BUY A FULL SET (2 fronts & 2 rears) OF FENDERS!

The year 1978 was a great era for Oldsmobile

    1978 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme advertising

Throughout history, the Oldsmobile story has inspired many automotive historians with its rich and celebrated heritage which started right in Michigan’s capital city of Lansing.

I remember a particularly exciting year in 1978 when Oldsmobile introduced their new line of vehicles and automotive catalogues to the buying public. My first impression was that Oldsmobile was using 1978 to create a family-oriented lineup of new cars. The company used its advertising and marketing to highlight many traditional family values

The Chrysler Corporation was also doing very well within the automotive markets with its popular Dodge Dart models. The 1966 Dodge Dart models made their debut in Dodge dealerships on September 30, 1965.
